Mason Sand
This type of sand is very similar to concrete sand, with its main distinction being that it is ground much finer than your typical concrete sand. Primarily composed of crushed granite, limestone, and other aggregate rocks, this sand is washed through a special screen that ensures a uniformity of grain size that is ideal for many construction projects. This includes but is not limited to being used in concrete for swimming pools and paving stones, since its fine texture gives concrete a very sleek finish. It can also be used in place of beach sand for volleyball courts, playgrounds, sand boxes, and other recreational areas where there may be a lot of foot traffic.
Septic Sand
Usually, septic sand is mostly finely crushed rock material of varying composition. The purpose of septic sand is to be functional, not necessarily visually appealing. As the name implies, this sand is used for septic systems in homes and businesses. This sand helps to purify water as it is naturally dispersed back into the ground after passing through your septic system in an area called a drain field, or leach field. Washed Sand
Silica is one of the most abundant rock materials on the planet, and that rock is what washed sand is primarily comprised of. Because it is so widely available, it is one of the most cost-effective sand materials available to consumers. The washing process of this fine silica removes excess salt, silt, dust, and powder that gives normal sand its coarse texture. Once washed, it’s separated into different grain sizes for specific applications. You’ll commonly find washed sand being used in mortar for bricklaying and stonework, as well as in recreational applications, like volleyball courts or to supplement existing sand beaches.
Gunite/Paver Sand
Gunite sand is a dry mixture that is used in the application process of gunite concrete. This time-saving concrete application process involves feeding this dry sand mixture into a high-pressure water jet that mixes and applies concrete simultaneously. This is a common concrete application process in swimming pools, and tends to be a much more cost-effective solution than other methods of quick-application concrete.
Stucco Sand
Stucco sand is used specifically for the mixture of plaster for elegant wall finishes. MJS Materials only supplies the highest quality stucco sand for this specific application process. This stucco sand is mixed with cement and lime to create an incredibly durable plaster material that can be textured and even pigmented to match the decor of your construction project.
